Mom Crush Monday's: Kahlana Barfield Brown of InStyle Magazine

A few months back, I was on instagram and spotted Kahlana Barfield Brown in the explorer section. I had no clue who she was but was quickly drawn to hit the follow button because of her exceptional sense of fashion. I then went through her page and found out she is a hard working diva. Kahlana Barfield Brown is the beauty & fashion editor-at-large at InStyle Magazine but her journey will inspire you to work hard and never give up on your dreams.

Kahlana studied Journalism at Howard University where she received her Bachelor's Degree. While many see the glitz and glam on Kahlana's instagram page, many may not know she started her career making $15 a day interning at Suede while working a second job at Club Monaco to make ends meet while living in New York City. According to an interview with XoNecole, the fashionista knew in order to prove herself she had to start from the bottom. 

Kahlana's ultimate vision was to one day live out her passion at InStyle Magazine but it wasn't a walk in the park. After interning for InStyle, the now editor-at-large was sent packing and moved to Seattle where she began working at Nordstrom but just two weeks later she got the call, the call she had been wanting her entire life. From the day she received that life-changing phone call which had her packing her bags and heading back to the Big Apple, Kahlana has been promoted six times within InStyle. 

Listen not only is Kahlana a stunning career woman but she's also a mom who is proving to every young girl and woman that we can have and do it all. Live your dreams. Follow your passion. Put in the work. Trust me, all the pieces to the puzzle will fall into place.
