Ghanaian Designers Making Waves!

If you know me then you know my love for fashion is undeniable. I grew up in a very fashionable household; my mom in her six inch heels, high end designer wear and diamonds. She’s always been so FAB, trendy, chic and sexy; all at the same time. The same goes for my sisters, cousins and aunties. They are trendsetters.

Growing up, I always paid attention to detailing, finishing, and quality when it came to the pieces I purchased. Over the years, i’ve also been studying Ghanaian designers especially over the past six years and let me tell you, we have so much talent. This post is breaking down my favourite Ghanaian fashion houses. Some i’ve worn over the years and others, I’ll be stocking them in my closet once i’m done with this post (LOL).

This list is in no particular order.

  1. Charlotte Prive - I’ve been wearing Charlotte Prive for the past five years. The growth in the brand has been extraordinary. CP is a very exclusive brand as in only two or three pieces of a look are created. I love, love, love the exclusivity. It’s a very affordable brand with pieces ranging from anywhere between 150-600GHC.

2. Bello Edu - B|E is another designer i’ve been wearing for the past five years. B|E is known for their staple pieces; fitted white blouses, structured skirts, and free-flowing dresses. The Bello Edu price range is from about 200 - 2500GHC but trust me, when Bello Edu has a sale, you never want to miss it.

3. Christie Brown - My love for Christie Brown runs deep and i’m still surprised at myself that I don’t have one Christie Brown piece in my closet. Aisha Obuobi launched the luxury brand back in 2004. Aisha comes from a creative and fashionable family. The brand, whose unique pieces have taken her on a global level, is named after her grandmother Back in 2014, Beyonce chose Christie Brown to designer her looks for The Mrs. Carter Show World Tour. From her statement pieces to her ready to wear looks, Christie Brown always has mind blowing collections. Price Range? Starting from around $200.

4. House of Damaris -I finally, FINALLY got a House of Damaris look created for me and I literally fell in love with this fashion house. I had heard so many positive reviews from satisfied customers of House of Damaris and I had also seen fabulous creations with my own eyes. From my recent experience with Jane, the CEO of House of Damaris, she had to be on this list. She’s very hands on in the entire creative process, giving her ideas but also making sure you the customer will be comfortable in the look she’s creating. She's also very unique with her designs. From bridal to everyday wear, House of Damaris has a look for you. Price range? It varies. Starting point is around 500GHC.

5. Ophelia Crossland - For me, Ophelia Crossland’s kimono’s are like no other. Just call me the “Kimono Queen”. While the brand carries everything from blouses, skirts, to dresses, for me personally, i’ve falling in deep love with their kimono’s. From the fabrics choices, colors and addition of African print, you can go no wrong slipping into an Ophelia Crossland kimono. Price point? 850GHC.
