Is your son ready to be potty trained? Read it again, is YOUR son ready to be potty trained? I asked you to read it again because I want you to emphasize on the world “YOUR”!

Once my son Aaron starting walking properly as soon as he turned one, I thought, ‘Yes, now let’s get this potty training rolling..’ I thought it would be a ball in the park but I was so wrong. Aaron just wasn’t in the mood to be potty trained. I tried over and over trying to coax him with everything from his favourite tv show to his favourite snack, nothing worked. So, I gave up.

I remember going into my mommy group excited to announce I was beginning the potty training stage and just weeks later, I was telling them that i’d given up. Every single mom said, “Don’t worry. Don’t force it. When Aaron is ready, it will happen in the blink of an eye.

In October of this year, Aaron started school. I mentioned to his amazing teacher that I had tried potty training in the past but I wasn’t successful and she told me not to worry. After three weeks, I was asked to start putting him on the potty frequently when Aaron is home because the training in the school had started. The same day I was told to do so, I did it and let me tell you, this mama right here; she, me, I was thrilled at how excited my baby boy was to use the potty. After a few days, I started putting boxer briefs on him and reminded him that if he wants to do wee-wee or poo-poo, he should make sure to do so in the potty. By the time I knew, I didn’t have to frequently put him on the potty as he was using the potty all by himself. Can you imagine how overjoyed I was? The next step was for Aaron to no longer wear pull-ups to school which started this week so, he’s in his big boy boxer briefs all day.

At night, I still have him wearing his pull-ups. Even though, he’s doing amazing during the day, the training continues.

BTW, Aaron is 2 1/2 years old. When I didn’t succeed the first time at potty training, I didn’t feel like a bad mom. I knew that it’s a process that takes time and I didn’t want to put any pressure on my son and as you read, it did happen in its own time. I also feel like because there wasn’t any pressure, it makes the whole potty training enjoyable for Aaron.

Next will be him the standing up training but there’s no rush.

So, with that being said, no child is the same. Potty training is a huge accomplishment for every child so don’t make it stressful for yourself or your child.
